Job Title:        Administrator, Medical Leave 

Department:       Human Resources

FLSA Status:      Non-Exempt

 

Vermeer Manufacturing seeks a knowledgeable HR professional with experience
in FMLA, STD and LTD compliance issues for our open Medical Leave
Administrator position.  This position administers the FMLA and short-term
disability (STD) policies ensuring compliance with all applicable company
policies, and state and federal laws; provides direction and knowledge by
communicating with employees, physicians, supervisors and human resources
managers on short-term and long-term disability and FMLA policies; extends
educated expertise on the regulations and guidelines of FMLA, STD and LTD
for the Company.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties
may be assigned.

      

50%   Assist employees by answering FMLA and/or STD related questions.
Manage STD and FMLA cases by determining eligibility, qualifying employees
by reviewing completed paperwork and evaluating potential for continued
on-the-job attendance as an alternative to STD.      

 

20%   Set up case files for STD/FMLA cases.  Track, monitor and review
incidents for the Company.

 

10%   Assist Human Resources Department with providing up-to-date
information on FMLA and STD policies and write articles associated with
FMLA, STD and other subjects for corporate newsletter.

 

10%   Train new hires and supervisors on FMLA policies and approve and
review all intermittent FMLA requests.

 

5%    Research new FMLA regulations, case law and other information
necessary to be successful in position.

 

5%    Provide employees with LTD paperwork and answer any questions
associated with completing the information needed for approval.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Associates degree with at least 5 years of HR experience with some exposure
to FMLA and/or equivalent education and experience, required.  4-year
college degree with a major in Business or Human Resources with 3-5 years
human resources experience with emphasis on FMLA, preferred. Medical Field
experience and/or nursing experience a highly desirable.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from
groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.  Ability to
effectively communicate orally and in writing with internal and external
customers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using
whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate,
ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Ability to operate a computer and general office equipment, such as
typewriter, phone, copy machine, fax machine and calculator.  Experience
with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel
and Access.

 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems
involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  

 

Procedures are established but conditions change; initiative must be
exercised to overcome minor obstacles.  FMLA regulations are not black and
white.  Must have the ability to apply knowledge to each instance by
following regulations.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

.     Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when
working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive
interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.

.     Demonstration of good oral and written communication skills. Ability
to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the Company.

.     Ability to work with confidential information, including medical
information,

.     follow processes, and comply with laws and regulations in order to
limit Company exposure to lawsuits.

.     Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in
a timely manner.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION  

PHR or nursing certification a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required

The visual requirements for this position are similar to those classified as
machine operators (including inspection), inspection, close assembly,
clerical and administrative.  This is a minimum standard for use with those
whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures,
accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading, visual
inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines
(including inspection), using measurement devices, assembly or fabrication
of parts at distances close to the eyes.
