Thanks Dave - I appreciate this information. We are looking at
grandfathering people into the program and beginning with 5 years - for
the reason you note below. We don't want a backlash from those who just
missed or in between awards, eg. 5 - 10 years. It will be costly to
start the program, but after the initial costs it will be spread out.

Sandee-
We are in the midst of implementing such a program.
Our attempt was to better streamline our awards, especially for those
who have been with us for more than 20 years, and we incorporated 5 year
increments, starting with 5 years.
So far, the response has been positive. However, we have really gone to
another level with providing a substantial cash award (on top of some
other things). We decided not to grandfather in employees and, as any
benefit, establish a start date. You may want to consider some type of
grandfather clause-- where we received the most feedback and negative
responses were those who "missed out" on their award by a few days,
weeks, or months and have to wait for the next milestone to hit. There
were some frustrations there.
Another item to consider would be employees who had previously left the
company and came back and selecting their most recent start date, or
creating an adjusted start date for Service Awards.
Of the awards we give out, we utilize Promotions Plus- Diane Hall:
641-942-6134. We worked with Diane on creating a custom catalogue.
Another source I considered was Sandy Brennan with HTH Enterprises. Her
email is brenmar at crosspaths.net. Sandy has a worthy incentive/gift
program and catalogues to choose from that I was very impressed with.
You can also post to your intranet that I was very impressed with as
well. For how we set our system up, it was not the best selection for
us at this time.

[IASHRM] Service Awards Program
We are looking at implementing an employee service award program to
begin with 5 years of service and then jump to 10 years, etc. If you
have a service award program in place, can you share information
regarding how it works, what's been successful and not successful in
regard to employee awards, and which awards company, if any, you are
working with? Thank you.
