[IASHRM] Drug testing

We currently use Oral Stat with some of our clients that request that we do
test on-site.  We still feel the best way is sending them to a clinic. I
would be happy to discuss with you some of the pros and cons of testing on-
site.

 

The process is simple, and is self administered. Staff has no direct contact
with oral fluid.  The test measures Morphine (opiates), amphetamine, PCP,
THC, cocaine and methamphetamines.  We have results within 15 minutes.  The
results are non-confrontational because if any "inconclusive " results are
noted in this initial screen we send the employee to a drug screening lab
for a urine test where if necessary the MRO is involved.  We have screened
hundreds of employees with only a minimal # less than 10 going off to the
lab for a urine test.  Of those only a few ended up showing positive
results.   

 

This program is not available in all States, so if your business has a
multi-State operation check that States laws. Last I was aware Maine,
Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New York and Vermont prohibits this
type of drug screening process.

Hello, we currently utilize a local vendor to conduct our drug screens and
are looking to bring this in-house due to time constraints.  Does anyone
currently conduct drug tests in-house?  If so, what was your incentive?  Do
you recommend a vendor?  How is the process working (how does this work in
regards to an MRO)?   Any information is appreciated.  Thank you!!!
