[IASHRM] Right to Work Double Talk

To the editor:

The legislature is considering a proposal that will hurt Iowa's job growth
by threatening Iowa's Right to Work status. What has been called "fair
share" by some really is a way to make gut Iowa's Right to Work law without
saying their repealing it. They think that we will still be able to
maintain our Right-to-Work status despite implementing "fair share."
However, when courts have been called upon to decide the issue, they have
ruled that "fair share" arrangements violate right to work laws. Simply
stated, "fair share" and Right-to-Work laws cannot coexist. They are
mutually exclusive.

Iowa's Right to work status has been instrumental in attracting and growing
business in Iowa. Currently, there are no other Right to Work states that
allow for "fair share" or "agency fees". All these legislators that
campaigned on growing jobs and the economy didn't mention in their campaigns
forcing non-union employees to pay union dues or fees. It's that kind of
double-talk that makes the voters cynical of politicians.
