Subject: Media Request - DHS/E-Verify/NEVA

Hello, my name is Lynda Waddington and I'm a journalist with Iowa
Independent. I've been covering the May 12 immigration raid in Postville at
Agriprocessors, Inc. and its aftermath. Research on that has led me to a
recent blog posting by Stewart Baker, assistant secrety for policy for the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security:
http://www.dhs.gov/journal/leadership/2008/07/ive-been-in-washington-while-a
nd-i.html

And also to the subsequent letter from Society for Human Resource Management
Acting President/CEO China Miner Gorman:
http://www.shrm.org/government/08gorman.pdf

I'd like to speak someone in the Iowa Chapter about this -- either by email
or by phone.

As you may or may not know, the search warrant filed by DHS/ICE before the
launch of the immigration raid in Postville relied heavily on two things:

1 - Testimony from former plant workers & and undercover agent
2 - No-Match letters from the Social Security Administration

In particular, I'd like to talk about how, if at all, use of the E-Verify
system could have prevented the federal action against Agriprocessors. I'd
really like to get "into the weeds" as much as possible and discuss the
limitations of the program and the benefits of NEVA as it has been proposed.
Of course, I'd also like comment in relation to Baker's blog posting that
seems to paint SHRM as a villian.

Look forward to hearing from you.
